Buying on the shop

Who am I actually buying from?

Every product here is sold by a South African business that is a verified Proudly South African Member. The Member who makes or supplies the item is named on the product page and on the product card, along with the province they work in.

Proudly SA Online Store takes the order, takes the payment and books the courier. The Member packs it. That is why one order can arrive in more than one parcel, and why a return goes back to the Member rather than to a warehouse of ours.

Do I need an account to order?

No. You can check out as a guest and still track the order with the reference and the email address you used. An account keeps your addresses, your order history and any gift card balances in one place, which is worth it if you order more than once.

Why are there no reviews on products?

Because nobody has written one yet. We would rather show you nothing than show you a rating built out of a handful of scores or bought in from somewhere else. Ratings appear on a product once real buyers of that product have left them.

Local and verified

What does the verified mark mean?

It means the business behind the listing holds current Proudly South African membership. Membership is assessed against local content, fair labour practice, environmental standards and quality, and it is renewed rather than granted once. A business whose membership lapses comes off the shop.

Verified Member

Is everything really made in South Africa?

Everything here is sold by a South African business that has been through that assessment. Where a product is manufactured locally the Member says so on the listing. If you want to know exactly where and how a specific item is made, ask the Member from their store page. They answer it better than we can.

Can I shop by province?

Yes. Shop by province lists every province and the Members working in it, which is the one way of browsing a national importer cannot copy.

Delivery and returns

Why might my order arrive in two parcels?

Because two different Members packed it. Each Member packs their own items and hands that parcel to the courier, so an order that crosses two businesses travels as two parcels and can arrive on different days.

You pay the delivery once, at checkout, however many parcels it turns into. Each parcel gets its own tracking and its own email so you are never left wondering whether the second one was a duplicate.

Two parcels is not two delivery charges. The quote at checkout covers the whole order.

Who delivers, and how is the courier chosen?

We book the courier, not the Member. Bob Go prices the live courier network against the collection address, the destination and the parcel, and the booking follows that quote. Full detail is on the Shipping and delivery page.

Do you deliver everywhere in South Africa?

We deliver to all nine provinces. Some outlying addresses are surcharged by the courier network and a few are served by a pickup point rather than to the door. The quote at checkout is the real price for your address, not an estimate.

How do returns work when the item came from a Member?

You raise it with us and we handle it from there. The item goes back to the Member who sent it, because that is where it came from and where a replacement would come from. The returns and refunds policy sets out what can go back, in what condition and by when.

Paying safely

How can I pay?

Card and instant EFT, through NjiaPay, which is a South African payment gateway. Gift cards bought here can be used against an order at checkout as well.

  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • Instant EFT
  • Gift card

Do you store my card details?

No. The card is entered on NjiaPay's own payment page and the number never reaches this shop or the Member. We hold the order, the amount and a reference, and nothing that could be used to charge you again. There is more on the secure payment page.

My payment failed. Has the money gone?

A failed payment does not create an order, so there is nothing for us to charge you for. Where a bank has placed a hold on the amount it releases on its own, usually within a few working days. If you can see the money gone and no order in your account, send us the date, the amount and the last four digits and we will trace it: contact us.

Selling with us

Can my business sell here?

If it is a South African business and it holds Proudly South African membership, yes. The application asks for your company details, your membership number, your banking details and where you collect stock from. Verification happens before anything of yours goes live.

When do I get paid?

The money for an order is held until the parcel is delivered, then released to you on the payout run with the commission and the courier cost already accounted for. Your dashboard shows every order, what it earned and what has been paid out. The commission and the payout terms are set out in your Member agreement, so they are in one place rather than two.
